As promised more photos of the sky lantern launch. It’s becoming a trendy thing here. Sadly weather is cruelly unpredictable in Moscow. There is no secure way of setting a specific date and knowing that it won’t be windy. Not that it has much to do with changing dates.

A massive launch had been planned a week before this one. Due to some obscure circumstances it didn’t take place. We were not even sure whether it would happen a week later. But there we were in yet another new part of the city that I didn’t know before. Moscow is full of surprises.

It started slowly, in a very shy manner. Someone took out the very first lantern and decided it was time to start. He or was it a she closed his or her eyes for a second, took a deep breath and opened a packing with a colored piece of paper in it. There was a match or a lighter to warm the balloon, while holding it gently only to let go. Others followed, lanterns were being lit up to roam city sky and in several minutes it was covered with glowing giant fireflies. At the same time we were covered with heavy smoke. It didn’t matter. People were genuinely happy experiencing magic and creating it with their own hands. Warm experience.

Lantern launch requires some skill and luck, thus sometimes it ends like this:

    • Indeed it was! Sadly whole event lasted for about half an hour. By the time everyone was supposed to stop lighting up lanterns and leave the park it wasn’t even dark yet. Indigo evening was gradually turning into deep blue night, smoke was clearing away, everyone got busy with finding exit and magic was soon lost to mundane matters.
